Thermal paste is a topic that many users underestimate. While you usually don't want to compromise on performance with an air or water cooler, thermal paste often receives little attention. It is the link between the heat source and the cooler. Thermal paste ensures clean contact between the CPU or GPU and the cooler. It is therefore essential to use a good thermal paste if you want to help your high-end cooler to develop its full performance. This is especially true if you own a water cooling system.

The Alphacool Eisfrost Xtreme is a high-performance liquid metal thermal paste. Conventional thermal pastes usually use silicone as a base. These are often mixed with silver or similar metals to increase the cooling performance. Nevertheless, the cooling performance of a liquid metal thermal paste is many times higher. This is because the thermal conductivity of conventional thermal pastes is significantly lower than that of the Alphacool Eisfrost Xtreme liquid metal thermal paste. This means that the heat is transferred much faster and more effectively from the processor or graphics card, for example, to the cooler.

This is particularly noticeable when overclocking. The higher the heat output, the more the performance of the liquid metal becomes noticeable. In combination with a good air cooler or, in particular, a good water cooler, you can achieve results that are several degrees Celsius better than with a conventional thermal paste. This can mean that you can get a few more MHz out of the CPU or GPU. Alternatively, you can of course cool more quietly if you can achieve lower temperatures. So the Eisfrost Xtreme is not just something for overclockers, but also for silent lovers.

Applying the Alphacool Eisfrost Xtreme liquid metal thermal paste is much easier than you think. First, you should thoroughly clean the heat spreader of the CPU or GPU. This is best done with a piece of kitchen roll or toilet paper. Then you can do the basic cleaning with the included cleaning cloth. You should avoid touching the heat spreader with your fingers after the basic cleaning. The small amount of grease left on the skin can make application difficult.
Now you can apply a small drop of liquid metal to the middle of the heat spreader. This should be smaller than a pea. The package contains two special cotton swabs for applying and spreading the liquid metal. This makes it very easy to spread the Eisfrost Xtreme thermal paste. You should take your time, though, because the high viscosity of liquid metal means it can only be spread slowly.

Liquid metal is conductive. It is important to avoid the liquid metal coming into contact with electronic components to avoid a short circuit.

Liquid metal may only be used on the following metals: copper, gold, silver, lead and zinc.
This also includes nickel-plated copper, which is used in most coolers.
Under no circumstances should it be used on aluminium surfaces, as liquid metal can attack and damage aluminium.

Due to the high surface tension, the liquid metal may only be applied to a flat surface to prevent it from flowing away quickly.
